Terms of Service

Last updated: October 9, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of AskMySchool at askmyschool.app and in our iOS and Android apps (the “Service”). By signing in or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. The Service is operated by Jesse Haines, on behalf of AskMySchool (“we,” “us”).

1. The Service

AskMySchool lets parents and guardians ask questions about their school and get answers, with citations, generated from documents and calendars the school has provided. School staff use it to manage that content and see how families use it. Features may change over time.

2. Accounts and eligibility

  • Access is provided through your school. Parents and guardians sign in with their school's Blackbaud parent portal account; school staff receive accounts from AskMySchool at the school's request.
  • You must be an adult parent or guardian of a student at a participating school, or authorized school staff. The Service is not for children, and children under 13 may not use it.
  • Keep your sign-in credentials secure and do not share your account. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at privacy@askmyschool.app if you suspect unauthorized use.
  • Your access depends on your school's relationship with AskMySchool and on your school continuing to list you as a parent, guardian, or staff member.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for anything unlawful, harmful, harassing, or unrelated to your school community.
  • Enter other people's sensitive personal information (such as medical, disciplinary, or financial details about a child other than your own) into questions.
  • Try to access accounts, schools, or data you are not authorized to access, or bypass security or access controls.
  • Scrape, overload, reverse engineer, or interfere with the Service, or use automated means to access it except as we permit.
  • Use the Service to build a competing product, or attempt to extract the underlying AI models or prompts.
  • Upload or send content (school staff) that you do not have the right to share, or that contains malware.

4. School content and your content

Schools own the documents, calendars, announcements, and other content they provide. Each school grants AskMySchool a limited license to store, process, and display that content only to provide the Service to that school and its families. Schools are responsible for making sure they have the right to share that content and that it is appropriate to share with their families.

You keep any rights you have in the questions you ask. You grant us permission to store and process them to provide the Service to you and your school, as described in our Privacy Policy.

AskMySchool owns the Service itself, including its software, design, and branding. These Terms do not give you any rights in them other than the right to use the Service as allowed here.

5. AI-generated answers

Answers are generated by artificial intelligence from your school's content. They can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong, even when citations are shown, and the underlying school documents may themselves be outdated. Answers are for general information only and are not official statements of your school, and they are not medical, legal, or financial advice.

Always check important information — deadlines, health and safety, emergencies, money, and anything about a specific child — against the cited document or directly with your school. In an emergency, contact your school or emergency services, not the Service.

6. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties such as Blackbaud (sign-in and school data), Google (AI processing), and Apple and Google (app stores and push notifications). Your use of those services is subject to their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.

7. No warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANSWERS WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ASKMYSCHOOL AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON AI-GENERATED ANSWERS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US TO USE THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US$50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

9. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time, and you can delete your account from your Profile or by asking us. We or your school may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms, if you are no longer associated with the school, if the school stops using the Service, or if needed to protect the Service or others. Sections that by their nature should survive (including content ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) survive termination.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. If your school has a separate written agreement with AskMySchool, that agreement controls where it conflicts with these Terms.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date and, for material changes, give notice before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after the changes take effect means you accept them.
